Porsche 911 GT3 Sport Cabriolet: open-top version with manual gearbox
Porsche is expanding its 911 GT3 lineup with an open-top version. A prototype of the 911 GT3 Sport Cabriolet has already been spotted during road tests, confirming plans to launch the model in the 2026 segment.
Visually, the new model will retain the signature GT3 features: an aggressive front bumper, advanced aerodynamics, and distinctive air intakes. The main difference will be a soft folding roof, along with modified body elements to compensate for the loss of structural rigidity, according to 32CARS.RU.
Technically, preliminary data suggests the powertrain will remain unchanged. Under the hood, it's expected to feature a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine producing 518 horsepower and 465 Nm of torque. Importantly, the six-speed manual transmission will be retained, making the model particularly appealing to enthusiasts.
Creating a cabriolet based on the track-focused GT3 is an unconventional move, as such cars are traditionally designed for maximum body stiffness and handling. Nevertheless, Porsche could offer a unique combination of driving thrill and open-air emotion.
If the model reaches series production, it will occupy a niche between classic convertibles and purebred track versions. The idea of an open-top GT3 appears risky but extremely intriguing. Porsche excels at finding balance, and if engineers can preserve the model's character, this could become one of the most emotional 911 variants ever.
