Volkswagen expands electric vehicle production in Spain with 10 billion euro investment
The Volkswagen Group is investing 10 billion euros to expand electric vehicle production in Spain. CEO Oliver Blume announced this during the presentation of the CUPRA Raval model in Barcelona.
The investment covers the entire production cycle, from battery manufacturing at the Sagunto plant to final vehicle assembly in Martorell. The facility will have an annual capacity of up to 300,000 electric vehicles, including the CUPRA Raval and the upcoming Volkswagen ID. Polo.
Spanish production will also include the ID. Cross, Epiq, and ID. Polo GTI models, all built on the MEB+ platform. According to Blume, Spain was chosen due to its established industrial infrastructure, competitive labor costs, and manufacturing expertise.
Blume emphasized that Spain plays a crucial role in the group's European electrification strategy. He also called for equal competitive conditions for all manufacturers, including Chinese companies.
This significant investment aims to strengthen Volkswagen's position in the EV market, where the company is determined to maintain its leadership. These projects will form an important part of new vehicle launches in 2026 and the broader development of electric mobility in the region.
