2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 near production start
General Motors is preparing to launch a new generation of full-size pickups: the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500. Preliminary information points to series production beginning as early as October 2026, although the timeline could still change.
The new trucks will mark an important step in the lineup’s development. They will ride on an upgraded T1-2 platform that retains the basic architecture while bringing improvements in handling, towing capability and efficiency.
Major changes are expected in the powertrain range. Buyers are set to get a new-generation Small Block V8, an updated 2.7-litre turbo engine and the 3.0-litre Duramax diesel. That mix is intended to preserve a balance between performance and economy.
The cabin is also in line for substantial upgrades. In the 2026–2027 vehicles, the focus will shift further toward digital technology, with an improved infotainment system, expanded connectivity functions and new driver-assistance systems. Higher trim quality and a broader choice of materials are also expected. The exterior design will be revised as well.
Patent images suggest the pickups will adopt a more modern and more aggressive look, an important move against competition from Ford and RAM. With full-size pickups remaining highly popular in the US, the Silverado and Sierra update carries strategic weight for GM.
GM appears to be sticking with a proven formula: evolution rather than revolution. That approach often pays off. If engineers can improve the key attributes without compromising reliability, the new pickups should be well placed to hold on to their leading positions.
