Jaguar Land Rover recalls 170,169 vehicles in the US over DC-DC converter fault
Jaguar Land Rover has announced a recall of 170,169 vehicles in the United States over the risk of a complete loss of drive. The issue is linked to a faulty DC-DC converter that powers the 12-volt system, making this one of the most notable developments in the automotive sector.
The recall affects several popular models, including the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Discovery and Defender. These are among the brand’s best-selling vehicles, making the situation especially sensitive for the company.
According to the NHTSA, the fault may lead not only to a loss of propulsion, but also to the failure of exterior lighting, directly affecting safety.
The root of the problem is the DC-DC converter, which charges the 12-volt system from the main battery. If it fails, the vehicle may completely lose power to auxiliary systems.
Failures of this kind are especially critical in modern vehicles, where electronics play a central role in control and safety. A final remedy has not yet been developed.
The large-scale recall shows how vulnerable even premium vehicles remain to electronic faults. As vehicle architectures become more complex, such risks are becoming increasingly relevant.
For owners, this means a service visit will be necessary once a fix is announced. For Jaguar Land Rover, it means added costs and reputational pressure, especially in a fiercely competitive SUV market.
