Denza presents the updated N8L and flagship N9 in Beijing
At the international motor show in Beijing, Denza, the premium sub-brand of BYD, presented the updated N8L crossover and the flagship N9. Both vehicles are aimed at the Chinese market and stand out with modern design, innovative technologies and an expanded set of electronic driver-assistance systems.
The updated flagship crossover Denza N9 is 5258 mm long, 2030 mm wide and 1830 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3125 mm. In other words, the new Denza even exceeds the Li L9, regarded as its main rival, in overall dimensions. The Denza flagship is offered with a six-seat cabin arranged in a 2+2+2 layout. Boot capacity is 351 litres, rising to 1140 litres when the second- and third-row backrests are folded.
The N9 debuted as an all-wheel-drive hybrid with standard air suspension, while the model’s equipment also includes a crab-walk mode. Its hybrid system combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol four-cylinder engine producing 207 hp and operating as a generator, three electric motors — one at the front and two at the rear — and a 46.9 kWh battery. Combined output is 925 hp and 1035 Nm. Denza claims the Denza N9 will reach 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. On electric power alone, it can cover 202 km on the Chinese CLTC cycle, while total driving range is 1302 km.
Beijing also saw the debut of the smaller model, the N8L crossover. Visually, the “eight” resembles the larger Denza N9, although the N8L has its own design. The crossover features vertical headlamp units, with daytime running lights shaped as double horizontal strips. The N8L also has different body cladding, while the rear number plate is positioned on the bumper. The Denza N8L is more compact: it measures 5200 mm in length, 1999 mm in width and 1820 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3075 mm. The smaller crossover gets 20- or 21-inch wheels, while the “nine” uses 22-inch rims.
Like the Denza N9, the Denza N8L is an all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid with air suspension. The smaller SUV’s powertrain includes a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 207 hp and working as a generator, plus three electric motors — one at the front and two at the rear. Combined output is 761 hp. The “eight” is equipped with a 46.99 kWh battery. On electric power alone, the Denza N8L can travel 230 km on the CLTC cycle, while combined range is 1300 km. The crossover accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.
