Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 stands out among 2026 luxury convertibles

Among the best cars in the luxury convertible segment, the Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 looks like one of the most unusual choices for 2026. It is the only roadster in the Maybach range, combining classic V8 strength with the highest level of comfort.

A nearly new 2026 example has already appeared on the U.S. market with minimal mileage — around 320 km. Its price is $239,980, which looks quite reasonable next to the model’s starting price of $224,900 before options.

Under the hood is a proven formula: a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 producing 577 hp and 800 Nm of torque. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes about 4 seconds, while top speed reaches 259 km/h. The focus, however, is not only on performance but also on ride smoothness, thanks to the dedicated Maybach suspension tuning.

The cabin is a story of its own. It features Nappa leather, extended massage functions, neck heating, 64-color ambient lighting and advanced third-generation MBUX technology. Unlike the AMG versions with a 2+2 layout, this car is strictly a two-seater.

The equipment list also includes 4Matic+ all-wheel drive, a 9-speed automatic transmission and a rich suite of electronic driver assistants. Together, these elements make the model not just a fast convertible, but a true grand tourer for comfortable long-distance driving.

Maybach rarely builds “accessible” models, but in this case the price looks justified. This is a car less about outright speed than status and sensation. For anyone looking for a car to buy for pure enjoyment, this version clearly deserves attention.
