Cixi Vigoz rethinks personal electric transport
French startup Cixi has unveiled an unusual vision of future transport: the Vigoz, a machine that combines elements of an electric car and an e-bike. With a 22 kWh battery and a range of up to 160 km, it can reach 120 km/h, but there is one defining condition: without pedalling, it simply will not move.
The project has been in development since 2015 and is now at the final prototype stage. At its core is Cixi’s proprietary PERS chainless pedalling system, which effectively governs speed. The electric motor assists the driver rather than replacing human effort. That makes the Vigoz not just a vehicle, but a hybrid between a mobility solution and a fitness tool.
Structurally, it is a two-seat, three-wheeled machine with an enclosed body, doors and a yoke-style control. Inside, there are Isofix mounts for a child seat, while the rear section can be converted into cargo space. The vehicle automatically leans into corners to improve stability, and steering is handled through a crossbar rather than a conventional wheel.
Despite its car-like layout, the Vigoz does without familiar features such as airbags and air conditioning. Instead, it uses seat belts and integrated seat fans. Charging is handled through a standard Type 2 port, and use on public roads, including highways, is already part of the concept.
The central intrigue is the business model: Cixi does not plan to sell the Vigoz directly. The vehicle will be available only by subscription, underlining the shift from ownership toward service-based mobility. In the end, the Vigoz is not merely a strange electric vehicle, but an experiment in the very idea of personal transport.
