Renault keeps the electric Twingo simple, but adds character
Renault is betting on simplicity, but with an emotional edge. The new electric Twingo arrives with a single motor and a single battery, so the model will evolve not through extra power, but through equipment and design.
The basic package is deliberately straightforward: 82 hp, a 27.5 kWh battery and a range of around 263 km. It is a typical city EV, with no claim to long-distance ability. To keep the price below €20,000, Renault has deliberately avoided a broad version line-up: no different battery options and no more powerful derivatives.
What it will gain is something many compact models lack: a folding fabric roof. In effect, it brings back the spirit of the original Twingo, with more light, more air and a stronger sense of an “open” car. That version will let Renault compete with the Fiat 500 Cabrio, which plays in the same space: style and emotion rather than specifications.
Renault will also develop the model through special editions and trim treatments. Versions such as Roland-Garros and Esprit Alpine are already being discussed. It is a familiar strategy for the brand: instead of more complex hardware, the car is kept fresh through its look and equipment.
