Buyers in the US may be in for a surprise: the same Cadillac XT5 costs less in Canada

The 2026 Cadillac XT5 is built in Tennessee, yet costs noticeably less in Canada than at home in the US — up to USD 11,354 cheaper on the Sport trim.

The 2026 Cadillac XT5 has created an awkward situation for American buyers. The crossover is built in the US, at the Spring Hill plant in Tennessee, yet it costs noticeably less in Canada than on its home market.

The gap shows up across the lineup. The base XT5 Luxury FWD in the US lists at USD 46,595 with delivery. In Canada, once local fees are converted into US dollars, it works out to about USD 39,492. The difference is USD 7,103.

The higher the trim, the sharper the contrast. The Premium Luxury AWD is priced at USD 57,395 in the US, while its Canadian equivalent comes to USD 47,975 after conversion. That's a USD 9,420 gap. On the Sport version it reaches USD 11,354: USD 64,595 in the US versus roughly USD 53,241 in Canada.

On paper, automakers often tweak prices for a specific market: they factor in rivals, exchange rates, demand and purchasing power. But with the XT5 the situation looks especially painful, because this isn't an imported model. A US-built car ends up cheaper across the border, even after Canadian fees, delivery, the federal air-conditioning tax and dealer charges.

For GM, this looks less like a coincidence and more like part of a wider policy. A similar tilt in favour of Canada has already been noted on some other models in the group. Apparently Cadillac has to fight harder for customers there, while in the US the company is counting on a higher willingness to pay.

All of this is happening as North America waits for a new generation of the XT5. In China, such a model is already on sale, and GM has confirmed that the next gasoline XT5 will reach the region too. The current crossover now has to keep buyers not with novelty but with price. Yet price is exactly where the US version looks most awkward.
