«Something BIG is coming»: Chevy hints at a serious new V8
Chevrolet Performance has dropped a teaser captioned «Something BIG is coming». A new Gen 6 Small Block V8 may be on the way — for Corvette, Camaro or Silverado.
Chevrolet Performance has stoked interest with a short teaser. The image shows the upper section of an engine, and the caption «Something BIG is coming» immediately gave fans reason to expect not just another minor tweak, but a serious new V8.
The shot reveals a fragment of the powerplant with a black intake manifold, metallic ribs and a Chevrolet logo. Hoses, clamps and connectors are visible nearby, so this looks less like a show mock-up and more like a production-ready design. In its proportions and layout, the engine resembles a modern pushrod V8 in the classic GM Small Block architecture.
The main intrigue is displacement and purpose. General Motors is already developing the Gen 6 Small Block family and investing in ICE production at facilities in Michigan, New York and Ontario. So the teaser could refer to a new V8 variant that builds on the 6.7-liter LS6 for the Corvette C8 Grand Sport.
The word BIG in the caption may hint not only at displacement, but also at the range of models. In the comments, fans are already hoping for a supercharged V8 for muscular pickups — so the Silverado ZR2 could finally answer the Ram TRX. Another scenario sounds more emotional: a return of the Camaro ZL1 or a fresh Impala SS.
Chevrolet has yet to reveal the specs, the launch date or the model the engine is being prepared for. But the teaser itself is a loud statement: GM is not about to quietly walk away from big gasoline engines. Against the mass shift to electric vehicles, this is a rare case when a new powerplant is interesting not for its eco rating, but for the good old question — how many liters and horses does it pack.
