ACSI 2025: Lexus and Subaru strengthen positions
The American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) has released its 2025 Automobile Study, showing overall driver satisfaction slipping 1% to 79 points on a 100-point scale. Higher prices and longer loan terms are weighing on customer sentiment. Luxury brands averaged 80 points, while the mass market held steady at 79.
Subaru surged ahead in the mass-market category, climbing 2% to score 85 — the highest among all brands. Toyota and Mazda followed at 82, while Buick, GMC, and Honda scored 81. Subaru’s strong reputation for safety and dependability, along with refreshed models like the Forester and Crosstrek, bolstered its performance. Hyundai also improved, but Stellantis brands slipped.
In the luxury segment, Lexus jumped 6% to reach 87, taking the top spot. The brand’s hybrid lineup, including the RX, NX, and ES, boosted sales and satisfaction. Mercedes-Benz dropped to second with 82, while Tesla and Cadillac tied for third at 81. BMW had the weakest showing, falling 5% to 75.
New metrics like expected resale value and driving range scored lowest, with hybrids leading across both categories. EVs lagged behind, showing the biggest satisfaction decline.
