A weekend cabin on wheels: how YURT reinvents the 7-seater Toyota Sienta

The Toyota Sienta has a fresh reason to appeal to anyone who looks at a compact family car as a weekend machine. Japanese specialist YURT has unveiled a dedicated VANLIFE ROOMKIT for the 7-seater version that turns the cabin into a space for resting and sleeping.

The kit will be shown on May 9–10 at the Fieldstyle Tokyo exhibition at Tokyo Big Sight. It will be the first public reveal of a kit for the three-row Sienta. The price is not yet announced, with sales planned during 2026.

The main challenge was the 7-seater layout itself. The extra row makes the cabin more complex than in the 5-seater, so YURT focused on simple installation and quick mode switching. The kit can be removed without any special tools, and it has to come out when the third row is in use or when the car goes through its technical inspection.

The VANLIFE ROOMKIT has two main scenarios. The first is Room Mode: the floor unfolds and the cabin becomes an even space resembling a small room. This format works not only for sleeping but also for stops on the road, breaks with kids, changing clothes or stashing gear during a trip.

The second mode is Loft Bed Mode. It uses floor panels topped with soft cushions, with a sleeping area up to 192 cm long. The floor splits the cabin vertically: a sleeping deck on top and a generous storage zone underneath. The panels open up, so gear can be reached without dismantling the whole setup.

There is one neat bonus: in Room Mode the 7-seater Sienta gives roughly 8 cm more interior height than the 5-seater version. For such a compact car that matters — spending the night inside feels less like a compromise and more like a proper way to travel.

YURT positions the kit not as a turnkey camper but as a tool that adapts to the owner’s habits. That is the point: the Sienta does not turn into a big camper, yet it lets a family head out for the weekend, sleep in the car and skip the full expedition routine with a tent and a roof rack.
