Polestar 4 changes its name and gets more comfortable — but the big technical update is still pending

The electric crossover gets a fresh badge, revised dampers and new anti-roll bars, but keeps its 400-volt architecture and existing motors and batteries.

Polestar has updated its electric 4 crossover and renamed it at the same time. The model is now called Polestar 4 Coupe. The brand has also reshuffled trim labels, while the car’s technical foundation has so far been left untouched.

The former Long Range Single Motor is now the Polestar 4 Coupe Rear Motor. The Long Range Dual Motor has become the Polestar 4 Coupe Dual Motor, and the top-tier Long Range Dual Motor Performance has been folded into the same Dual Motor with an optional Performance Pack. The reshuffle brings the line-up closer to the brand’s new naming logic, even if it still looks a little out of sync with the Polestar 3.

According to the manufacturer, the Polestar 4 Coupe is at once sharper to drive and more comfortable. To get there, engineers retuned the dampers and fitted new anti-roll bars. The powertrains, however, were left alone. The Rear Motor version delivers 272 hp and uses a 100 kWh battery, good for up to 620 km of range. The Dual Motor gets all-wheel drive, 544 hp and a range of up to 590 km. The Performance Pack version offers the same output.

The main caveat — the Polestar 4 has not received the kind of deep technical overhaul the Polestar 3 has just been through. Its electric motors, battery packs and 400-volt architecture all carry over. That means there is no move to a more modern 800-volt system yet, although such an upgrade is expected later on.

In Europe, the Polestar 4 Coupe Rear Motor starts at 59,800 euros. The Dual Motor is priced from 63,800 euros, while the version with the Performance Pack costs 70,000 euros.
