The Ford Maverick has long proven that a compact pickup can be more than just a workhorse — it can also be an interesting base for modifications. Now Steeda Autosports, a well-known American tuner, is stepping up its work in that direction by buying its own Maverick EcoBoost to develop new components.

The test vehicle is a Ford Maverick XLT in Oxford White. Under the hood is a 2.0-litre turbocharged EcoBoost engine producing 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. The truck is all-wheel drive. In the U.S. this Maverick starts at $30,645 before destination charges, which still makes it a relatively affordable platform for enthusiasts.

Steeda already works with the Maverick. The tuner had previously announced an expansion of its R&D programme covering new parts and accessories, including a suspension kit and an adjustable rear anti-roll bar. Having its own truck in-house will now let the team validate ideas in the real world rather than only on paper.

The tuner has not yet revealed the full list of upcoming upgrades. Steeda’s Maverick catalogue already includes a ProFlow blow-off valve adapter, a front strut tower brace, a high-flow air filter and several other parts. The next step could bring new suspension components, intake and exhaust kits, appearance packages or solutions for owners who want to use the truck not only every day but also on track.

Steeda president Dario Orlando said the Maverick is attractive thanks to its blend of price, practicality and customisation potential. According to him, the company’s goal is to help owners improve the feel of their truck through suspension, performance components and exterior upgrades.

The Maverick is appealing precisely because it doesn’t try to be a big F-150. It is light, compact and powerful enough in EcoBoost form. If Steeda manages to give it sharper suspension and a slightly more sporting character, Ford could end up with an unofficial small pickup for those who want more than just practicality.
