Trident on the move: Maserati polishes its lineup where its story began
Maserati is fine-tuning three of its key models around the historic Viale Ciro Menotti plant — the place where the Trident was born.
Maserati is preparing an update for three models at once: the GranTurismo, the GranCabrio and the Grecale. The company has released photos of camouflaged prototypes already undergoing road tests in Italy.
The cars were spotted around the historic Maserati plant on Viale Ciro Menotti in Modena. For the brand, this isn’t just a picturesque setting for a photo shoot: it’s home to the engineering team responsible for developing and refining every model that wears the Trident.
Testing isn’t confined to a single route. The area around Modena offers city streets, hilly roads, regional highways and high-speed stretches. That mix is needed to check the car not only in ideal conditions, but also in the scenarios its owner will actually face: heavy traffic, quick lane changes, climbs, rough surfaces and long drives.
Professional test drivers are at the wheel of the prototypes. Their job is to gather data for the final calibration of the suspension, steering, electronics, powertrains and the car’s overall behaviour in different driving modes.
Maserati isn’t revealing technical details yet. But the fact that the GranTurismo, GranCabrio and Grecale are all being fine-tuned at the same time shows the brand is preparing not a one-off tweak to a single model, but a broader refresh of the lineup.
For buyers, this matters more than it might seem. Maserati faces a tricky task right now: keep the character of a fast Italian car while sharpening up technology, comfort and everyday usability. The camouflage will come off soon enough — just how deep the modernisation actually runs will become clear closer to the premiere.
