A German badge is no longer enough: how VW reshaped its China electric SUV
Volkswagen Anhui refreshes the Yu Zhong 06 electric SUV with VW OS, a 27-inch AR-HUD, a local AI model and 528 km of range, starting at 134,900 yuan.
Volkswagen Anhui has unveiled the updated Yu Zhong 06 electric crossover. In China the model comes in two versions: the Pure at a temporary promotional price of 134,900 yuan, and the Pure SE at 144,900 yuan.
The exterior is almost unchanged, but the updates reach the cabin, the equipment list, the powertrain, the battery and the range. The dimensions stay firmly family-sized: 4,663 mm long, 1,860 mm wide and 1,617 mm tall, with a 2,766 mm wheelbase.
Inside there is a 10.25-inch digital instrument display and a large 27-inch AR-HUD. The infotainment runs on a MediaTek MT8676 chip, while the software backbone is the new VW OS operating system. It integrates the Zhipu Qingyan large language model, which should make voice control and the smart features feel noticeably more current.
The equipment list includes a surround-view camera system, nine speakers, a dashcam, a V2L function for powering external devices, sport seats and double-glazed acoustic windows. A UNYX SOUND audio system with 12 Hi-Fi-class speakers is available at extra cost.
For driver assistance the Yu Zhong 06 will offer two architectures: a vision-only setup and a lidar version, deliveries of which are planned closer to the end of the year. Even the base vision system includes six high-resolution cameras, a millimeter-wave radar and 12 ultrasonic sensors. Point-to-point automatic lane changing and parking-scenario memory are claimed.
On the technical side things have become clearer and more practical. The Yu Zhong 06 gets a rear electric motor rated at 170 kW and 350 Nm. A 60 kWh battery delivers 528 km of range on the CLTC cycle.
The updated Yu Zhong 06 shows how Volkswagen is shifting its priorities in China. A German badge and a tidy cabin are no longer enough for buyers: they want a big HUD, smart parking functions, local AI and a decent range for sensible money. That is exactly where this model has been pushed.
