Cognito Motorsports recalls Alpha ball joints for 2021–2025 Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD pickups

California-based Cognito Motorsports has announced a recall of 12,160 Alpha ball joints designed for 2021–2025 Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD pickups. The defect carries a risk of failure while driving: the ball stud can pull out of the housing, causing the upper control arm to separate.

The recall was triggered after two reported failures. Cognito acknowledges the issue is nearly impossible to detect in normal use. All affected parts were produced between February 5 and September 15, 2025, and were sold in pairs. That reality makes timely notifications especially important.

Owners will be notified by mail: interim notices will go out by October 20, with detailed repair instructions to follow by October 30. Customers will be offered replacement or modification of the parts, along with reimbursement for labor. Cognito will provide step-by-step video and written guides, or cover the cost of service—sensible measures given the difficulty of spotting the problem before it becomes critical.

On the company’s website, Alpha ball joints under part number 91253 are priced from $94.95 per set and come with a limited lifetime warranty. The manufacturer presents them as ultra-reliable components for heavy-duty use, yet this recall inevitably puts a dent in that spotless reputation.
