Tesla Model Y L proves stability in China high-speed elk test

Tesla has launched the long-wheelbase Model Y L in China, and early tests already highlight its biggest upgrade — a new adaptive suspension with continuously variable dampers. Designed as a three-row family EV, the Model Y L delivers greater comfort, quieter ride quality, and improved stability, with settings that even allow prioritizing rear passenger comfort.

Alongside suspension upgrades, Tesla has added a richer audio system with three extra speakers and a redesigned ventilation setup, featuring manually adjustable vents in the B- and C-pillars for the rear rows. These enhancements position the Model Y L as a refined people mover rather than a pure performance SUV.

The real headline came from an elk test — a sudden swerve maneuver designed to evaluate stability. With only the driver onboard, the Model Y L cleared the cones at 120 km/h (75 mph) without issues. Loaded with six passengers (about 500 kg/1,100 lb), the car still managed the test at 116 km/h (72 mph). For comparison, the original Model Y tested by km77.com in 2021 succeeded at just 83 km/h (52 mph).

While elk test results vary depending on setup and track, the outcome underscores Tesla’s progress. The Model Y L is not just stretched; it’s a significantly more stable and comfortable SUV.
