Range Rover is preparing the first fully electric SUV in the model's history. According to TopSpeed, the newcomer is meant to preserve the classic look of the flagship off-roader while switching to a fully electric powertrain. For the brand it is a major step: the model has long been associated with large petrol and diesel engines, and now it is entering the luxury EV segment.

According to industry sources, the Range Rover Electric will get a 117 kWh battery with a double-stacked layout and 344 prismatic cells. The architecture will be 800-volt, and peak fast-charging power can reach 350 kW. Various sources also point to a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup with around 542 hp and 850 Nm. JLR has already tested prototypes in tough conditions, including cold climates.

The main point of the newcomer is not just the switch to electric power. Range Rover is trying to preserve what the car was bought for in the first place: silence, comfort, all-wheel drive and off-road capability. The company has stated that the electric version should be one of the quietest and most luxurious in the line-up, not merely a «battery-powered» replacement for the combustion model.
