BMW ends 8 Series production; final batch due in 2026
BMW is closing the chapter on its flagship supercars: the 8 Series has disappeared from the online configurator and is no longer available to order. The coupe, convertible, and even the lavish Gran Coupe have been pulled from production, with only a few finished cars left in stock.
Revived in 2018 after a two-decade hiatus, the 8 Series never reached the brand’s ambitions. For all its technical polish and prestige, demand for BMW’s expensive sports models proved too thin. While the Porsche 911 has kept its foothold, the 8 Series story passed largely unnoticed.
A few units can still be found in Germany, but in Spain and other European markets they’ve already disappeared. Production is winding down—the final batch is set for April 2026, after which the series leaves BMW’s lineup for good.
There’s no direct successor on the way, nor an electric counterpart: management deemed the development costs too high. The mantle of sporty flagship shifts to the 4 Series and its M Performance versions—more attainable, yet still genuinely lively.
The quiet exit of the 8 Series signals the end of an era at BMW, a moment when prestige and emotion yield to pragmatism and electrification. It’s a subdued farewell to a model line that, despite its talents, never quite cemented a presence on the road.
