Geely's flagship hybrid crossover, the Galaxy M9, has scored top marks in China's electrical-safety program for new energy vehicles. The trials were run by the China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC). The model's final result — 95.3 points out of 100 and a «five-star» rating.

The Galaxy M9 was submitted for testing with its 41.46 kWh Aegis lithium iron phosphate battery. Specialists assessed safety during fast DC charging, the level of electromagnetic emissions from the motors under load, and the sealing and protection of the high-voltage system.

The crossover performed best in the key categories. In electromagnetic safety, traction-battery safety and high-voltage-system safety, the Galaxy M9 took the maximum 100 points. For a large hybrid SUV that is a strong argument: buyers in this class increasingly look not only at range, power and equipment, but also at battery reliability.

Geely places special emphasis on its in-house Aegis battery. According to the company, the Geely Auto group holds 148 patents related to battery safety. These batteries have previously gone through extreme trials: penetration with steel needles, exposure to open flame, immersion in water and even being driven over by heavy machinery.

The Galaxy M9 has already earned high marks in other tests. The crossover previously passed C-NCAP with five stars for safety and was recognized under China's C-GCAP green-vehicle assessment program. The body is 40.4 % high-strength steel with a tensile strength of more than 1000 MPa.

For the whole segment of large Chinese hybrids this is a telling signal. As these models expand into more markets, they will have to compete not only on second-row comfort and multimedia, but also on proven battery safety. In a class where Li Auto, Voyah, Tank and GAC S9 are already visible, that becomes a distinct advantage.

The Galaxy M9 shows that Chinese hybrids are maturing in more than just design and equipment. The fight is now for trust in the high-voltage system — and for a family crossover that may matter more than one more screen in the cabin.
