Peugeot postpones Australian EV launches to push mild hybrids
French carmaker Peugeot has decided to postpone the launch of three new electric models in Australia. In response to changing market conditions and evolving customer preferences, the brand is pivoting to an accelerated rollout of mild-hybrid technology—an approach that favors pragmatism over speed.
Peugeot had previously flagged the arrival of the all-electric E-3008 compact SUV, along with battery-powered versions of the popular E-208 and E-308 hatchbacks. Those plans are now on hold indefinitely, and company representatives said there is currently no clear timeframe for a return to building pure electric models.
Instead, Peugeot will concentrate on rolling out mild-hybrid systems across its passenger lineup. This setup pairs a small battery and an electric motor with a petrol engine, helping to cut fuel use and reduce harmful emissions. For many buyers, that kind of real-world efficiency gain is often what tips the scales.
