Next-gen KIA Seltos debuts with 141 hp hybrid system and e-AWD

The next-generation KIA Seltos (SP3) has been spied in U.S.-spec guise with orange daytime running lights, ahead of its official debut in early 2026. For the first time, the popular compact SUV will receive a hybrid variant, reflecting Kia’s strategy to electrify its entire SUV lineup.

The Seltos Hybrid will pair a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor for a combined 141 hp, a setup shared with the Hyundai Kona Hybrid and Kia Niro. Mass production is scheduled to begin in August 2026 at the Kia Autoland Gwangju plant. Alongside the standard gasoline version, the hybrid will broaden consumer choice, particularly in markets shifting away from diesel.

Kia is also developing a new e-AWD system, designed to deliver fully electronic all-wheel drive. This innovation aims to appeal especially to European buyers, where demand for AWD crossovers remains strong. Improved traction, cornering ability, and fuel efficiency should enhance the Seltos Hybrid’s market position.

Despite its close proximity to the Kia Niro in size and performance, the Seltos Hybrid is expected to remain competitive thanks to its strong value proposition. In Korea, the Seltos has led the small SUV sales charts since 2020, and the new model is likely to continue this trend, especially with pricing expected to start in the low 20 million won range.

Combining affordability, hybrid efficiency, and the practicality of a compact SUV, the 2026 Seltos Hybrid could play a pivotal role in Kia’s global electrification roadmap.
