Morgan's most powerful production car arrives in Japan four months after its world premiere, with the BMW B58 engine tuned to 408 hp.
The Morgan Supersport 400 has reached Japan four months after its world premiere. The local importer began sales on August 28 at a price of ¥31,251,000.
The main difference from the regular Supersport hides under the long hood. The 3.0-liter BMW B58 here produces around 408 hp and works with an 8-speed automatic. The standard Supersport puts out roughly 340 hp. That means a gain of about 68 horsepower, while the 0-100 km/h time dropped from 3.8 to 3.6 seconds.
The upgrades aren’t limited to the engine. The Dynamic Handling Pack, offered as an option on the base Supersport, comes standard on the 400: adjustable Nitron dampers with 24 settings, revised suspension geometry, and bespoke tuning. An active exhaust system and forged 19-inch Sportlite wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires round out the changes.
Morgan has kept the CXV platform with its bonded aluminum construction and the car’s signature silhouette. The exterior tweaks are functional: new vents in the front fenders aid cooling, and four new matte finishes join the color palette. A limited-slip differential remains an option.
The Supersport 400 has already been in production in the United Kingdom: Morgan opened orders in spring at a starting price of £112,965 before local taxes, with production beginning in May. The Japanese launch is therefore an expansion of sales territory, not the debut of a new car.
