Nissan Wave 2027: expected price, battery and driving range

Nissan is testing its future A-segment EV in southern Europe. The model is based on Renault Twingo, while the Wave name, final range and price remain unconfirmed.

Nissan’s future smallest model, which media reports expect to arrive in 2027, has appeared as a real prototype for the first time. The camouflaged electric car was spotted testing in southern Europe, and its proportions are indeed close to the Renault Twingo. This marks a new stage for the project: until now, the future model, which media outlets call the Wave, had mainly appeared in renderings and reports citing sources.

The project itself has been officially confirmed. On March 31, 2025, Renault Group announced that its Ampere division would develop and manufacture an A-segment derivative of the Twingo for Nissan in Europe. Nissan will create the design itself. So this is not simply speculation around a test mule, but a prototype from an already announced joint project.

Camouflage hides the details, but the front and rear lighting clearly differ from the Renault. That fits earlier information that Nissan intends to give the car its own identity, as it has already done with the electric Micra based on the Renault 5.

Caution is still needed with the technical specifications. Media reports attribute a 27.5 kWh LFP battery, a 60 kW (82 hp) electric motor and more than 250 km of WLTP range to the future Nissan. Those are the same headline figures as the related Twingo: Renault officially lists a 27.5 kWh battery, a 60 kW motor and up to 263 km of range. Nissan, however, has not yet confirmed that it will retain this configuration unchanged.

The same applies to price. A target below €20,000 appears in specialist reports and would be logical for a project in this class. Nissan has not published a production price list, however, so it is too early to present that figure as the Wave’s official starting price.

The car also matters because Nissan has been absent from Europe’s A-segment since the Pixo. The Twingo’s technical package already shows how far Renault has gone to reduce the cost of a city EV: LFP batteries and Chinese components are gradually becoming part of mainstream European electric cars. At the same time, compact models with relatively small batteries are already among the most energy-efficient EVs, and the Twingo also features in recent efficiency rankings.

For now, the most accurate formulation is this: Nissan is already testing its own version of the Twingo, while specialist media expect the production car in 2027. The Wave name, final range, battery and price will only become established facts once Nissan officially reveals the specifications.
