Porsche 911 Flachbau RS: what could reach series production
Porsche says ideas from the one-off 911 Flachbau RS may influence future production cars, although no series Slantnose, launch date or price has been announced.
Porsche has not announced a new production 911 Slantnose, but for the first time it has openly acknowledged that individual ideas from the unique Flachbau RS could eventually make their way into the regular model range.
Porsche Vice President for Individualisation and Classic Alexander Fabig told The Drive that Sonderwunsch projects are also viewed as a source of ideas for series-production cars. In the past, bespoke requests have first become factory options and later elements of the regular range. In the case of the Flachbau RS, however, Porsche is only talking about the possibility of transferring or reinterpreting individual solutions; it has not announced a specific model, launch date or price.
The Flachbau RS itself will remain a factory one-off. Porsche created it from a 2018 911 GT2 RS of the 991.2 generation. The car retains the 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six with 700 hp and 750 Nm, but gains a completely new front end inspired by the 935/78, different lighting, revised aerodynamics and a 31.6 kg weight reduction.
That means it is still too early to treat Porsche's comments as confirmation of a production Slantnose. Even if Flachbau-inspired elements reach the series-production range, the company has not confirmed the car itself, its price or when it might appear.
