Toyota Crown Crossover 2026: price, 239-hp hybrid and WLTC fuel economy
Japan's Toyota Crown Crossover gains a 239-hp fifth-generation hybrid and better WLTC economy; U.S. Crown specs remain a separate market configuration.
The Toyota Crown Crossover was updated in Japan on September 3, 2026 with five extra horsepower, fuel consumption lower by about 0.13 l/100 km and a price increase of less than 1%. The CROSSOVER G and Z switched to a fifth-generation hybrid system, while total system output rose from 172 kW (234 hp) to 176 kW (239 hp).
The efficiency gain is more noticeable than the extra power. The G’s WLTC rating improved from 22.4 to 23.1 km/l, equivalent to a drop in fuel consumption from roughly 4.46 to 4.33 l/100 km. Toyota attributes the result to a more compact, lighter and more efficient hybrid module; the 2.5-liter engine retains D-4S and electronically controlled VVT-iE valve timing.
Prices changed only moderately. The G now costs 5,179,900 yen, the Z 5,999,400 yen and the RS 6,739,700 yen. Compared with the previous price list, the increases are 29,900, 49,400 and 39,700 yen respectively, or about 0.6–0.8%.
There is an important difference from the 2027 U.S.-market Crown. Toyota also introduced THS 5 there, but the standard hybrid remains at 236 hp and its EPA fuel-economy rating has slipped slightly. The American Crown therefore produced a different result. The consumption figures themselves cannot be compared directly because EPA and Japan’s WLTC use different test cycles.
The visual update is easiest to spot from the rear. Toyota revised the two-tone treatment: the hood and upper body above the beltline are now black, while the lower moldings and wheel arches get piano-black trim. Neutral Black has also joined the color palette. The RS gains red brake calipers, and paddle shifters are now standard on every grade. The RS and Z also receive the 10-speaker Toyota Premium Sound system with an 8-channel amplifier as standard.
For English-speaking readers, the closest official comparison is the U.S. 2027 Toyota Crown, but it is a separate market specification. Toyota USA lists the standard 2.5-liter hybrid at 236 hp and 40 mpg combined, with a starting MSRP of $41,640. The Japanese prices above therefore should not be read as a guide to U.S. pricing: Japan's Crown Crossover has its own grades, WLTC certification and equipment strategy.
The 239-hp hybrid does not replace the RS’s flagship powertrain. That grade continues with a 2.4-liter turbo engine, the Dual Boost Hybrid system, a six-speed automatic transmission and E-Four Advanced all-wheel drive.
