Tesla robotaxi expansion: job hires in Colorado and Illinois
Tesla has officially said it is considering launching its robotaxi service in two new U.S. states. The company hopes to add fresh territories to a steadily growing map of places where the service is already operating or in testing.
The rollout began in Austin, Texas, in late June. Just a month later, the service reached California’s San Francisco Bay Area. Since then, Tesla hasn’t activated the service in other states, though it has secured several permits for early-stage trials. The sequence suggests a deliberate, step-by-step expansion rather than a splashy nationwide push.
Now Tesla has posted job listings for Autopilot vehicle operators in two additional states: Colorado and Illinois. Those postings hint that Tesla is pressing ahead with the Robotaxi footprint. Earlier this year, CEO Elon Musk said the company would like Robotaxi to be available to at least half of the U.S. population. The hiring drive reads as a pragmatic move—building capability on the ground before widening access.
