Toyota Sienta 2027: new 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine and next-generation rumors
The next Toyota Sienta is rumored for 2027 with a new 1.5-liter four-cylinder. Toyota has developed the engine, but has not confirmed it for the minivan.
The next Toyota Sienta could get an unusual change for the modern era: instead of today’s 1.5-liter three-cylinder, the Japanese minivan is rumored to adopt a new four-cylinder engine of the same displacement. According to APOLLO, a generation change could come as early as 2027, although Toyota has not confirmed either that timing or the new engine for the Sienta.
The engine itself is more than a rumor. Toyota has developed naturally aspirated and turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four engines with electrified powertrains in mind. The naturally aspirated version is 10% lower and 10% smaller in volume than the current 1.5-liter three-cylinder. Contrary to what the extra cylinder might suggest, the new unit is not larger.
The current Sienta uses the three-cylinder M15A-FKS and M15A-FXE. Toyota updated the model on August 3: a new color was added, the mirror housings received a black finish, and the cold-climate package became standard on E-Four versions. The vehicle’s basic architecture, however, remained unchanged.
Against that backdrop, a move to a new generation in 2027 is plausible, but for now it remains a forecast. The Response/APOLLO report also suggests that the Sienta will retain dimensions compatible with Japan’s compact 5-number class and continue to evolve its hybrid system. Toyota has not released official details on either point.
After the August update, the current Sienta continues to offer two factory Modellista styling packages with distinctly different looks. The next verifiable milestone will not be another rendering, but official Toyota information about the fourth-generation model’s platform and powertrain.
