Leapmotor PHEV exports in 2027: launch timing and overseas sales targets
Leapmotor plans to add plug-in hybrids to its overseas range in the first half of 2027 while targeting 350,000–400,000 foreign sales for the year.
China’s Leapmotor plans to expand its overseas lineup with plug-in hybrid PHEV models. According to Cailian, such vehicles could reach international markets as early as the first half of 2027. The company has not yet disclosed which models or countries will be first.
Leapmotor’s current range is built around battery-electric vehicles and EREV models that use a gasoline engine as a generator. A broader plug-in hybrid lineup could give the brand more flexibility in markets where charging infrastructure is less developed.
According to Cailian, Leapmotor exported 132,118 vehicles in the first eight months of 2026, up 327.79% year over year. The company is targeting roughly 200,000 overseas sales for all of 2026 and expects to raise that figure to 350,000–400,000 vehicles in 2027.
Leapmotor International remains the backbone of this expansion. The joint venture with Stellantis handles the brand’s development outside China. The partnership gives Leapmotor access to Stellantis’ international dealer and service infrastructure and helps bring new models to different markets more quickly.
For now, this is not a launch announcement for any specific country. However, expanding the export range with plug-in hybrids could make Leapmotor more attractive in markets where the use of pure EVs is still constrained by charging infrastructure.
