2027 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra gain wider, redesigned seats
GM widened not only the cushioning but also the metal seat frame in the 2027 Silverado and Sierra. Three seat contours are tailored to different trims.
The seats in the new-generation 2027 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra are 26 mm wider than before. GM did not stop at adding more foam: the metal seat frame and the cushioned rear section were widened by the same 26 mm. For a full-size pickup that often spends hours on long trips, that matters more than another new cabin trim.
GM full-size truck Program Engineering Manager Ben Kelly told GM Authority that one goal was to increase the distance between the occupant and the hard parts of the frame. Engineers also substantially reworked the shape of the seat cushion and backrest. How much more comfortable the seats feel in real use remains to be seen — the trucks are due to reach the market later in 2026.
There will not be a single universal seat for the entire lineup. GM developed three contours: base, lux and sport. They differ in shape and foam firmness depending on the purpose of each trim. That makes sense in a family that ranges from the work-focused Silverado WT to the off-road ZR2 and premium High Country or Sierra Denali Ultimate.
The Silverado also gets an all-new interior with a 16.3-inch center screen and a 12.2-inch driver display, while ZR2 and High Country add an 11.5-inch front-passenger screen. The precise 26 mm increase, however, was detailed by the engineering team in a separate interview.
