Maserati GranTurismo and GranCabrio recall in South Korea over registration width
A South Korean recall covers 62 Maserati GranTurismo and GranCabrio cars because their registered width can differ from the actual body width. No vehicle repair is required.
Not every vehicle recall ends with a part being replaced. In South Korea, Maserati GranTurismo and GranCabrio cars built from September 9, 2008, to April 11, 2011, are subject to a recall. Published data show that 62 vehicles are affected. The Korean automobile recall center lists the campaign as starting on September 22, 2026.
The reason is unusual: incorrect information about the vehicle's width was submitted during the original certification process. As a result, the body width measured in practice may differ from the figure shown on the registration certificate by more than local rules allow.
No repair to the car itself is required. The issue is administrative: during mandatory periodic inspection, the vehicle's actual width is checked against its registration data, and an excessive discrepancy can result in a failed inspection.
After such a failure, the owner has to undergo another inspection. If that is not done within the period set by South Korean law, an administrative penalty may follow. That is why a mechanically sound vehicle can still fall under a recall procedure.
The remedy is to correct the registration data and issue a new certificate. If necessary, authorized Maserati service centers help owners complete the administrative procedure. South Korea's Recall Center also allows a vehicle to be checked by registration number or VIN.
The case shows that a recall does not always mean the vehicle has a defect: sometimes the problem to be corrected is an error made during certification.
