PRS Silver Sky Defender Color Collection: colors, editions and 2027 order deadline
PRS and Defender turned factory paint samples into an eight-color Silver Sky collection, including a 500-unit Arles Blue edition inspired by John Mayer's 1997 Defender 90.
Defender gave PRS more than color names: it supplied real paint samples and factory codes from its automotive palette. The result is the Silver Sky Defender Color Collection, a series of eight John Mayer guitars whose finishes come directly from the British off-roader's color history.
PRS split the official collection into two groups. The US-made Silver Sky models come in the classic Arles Blue, Willow Green, Portofino Red and Sandglow Yellow. Only 500 examples of each finish will be built, for 2,000 guitars in total. They feature white pickguards and controls, a body-matched headstock and an individual plaque naming the finish and marked “1 of 500”.
The more affordable SE Silver Sky gets the modern Petra Copper, Sedona Red, Carpathian Grey and Woolstone Green. Production is not capped by a fixed quantity, but orders are accepted only through June 30, 2027. The SE versions also bring black pickguards and controls to the Silver Sky line for the first time.
This is not a case of simply choosing similar-looking paint. In an interview with Guitar World, Mayer said Defender provided PRS with actual samples and factory color codes. The white trim on the US-made Silver Sky models references the contrasting roofs of classic Defenders, while the black SE details echo the dark accents used on modern vehicles.
The starting point was Mayer's own 1997 Defender 90 in Arles Blue. The musician has long collected these off-roaders, making that shade the natural anchor for the classic side of the collection.
PRS will also build a small number in British Racing Green, but these guitars will not be sold. They are intended for Defender Service Awards projects and John Mayer's The Heart and Armor Foundation. The Silver Sky specifications themselves remain unchanged: the collaboration is centered on color, design and Defender history.
