Alfa Romeo Tonale Ibrida Sport Speciale limited to 60 cars in Japan
Alfa Romeo has launched the Tonale Ibrida Sport Speciale in Japan. The 60-car edition adds unique trim and Biscione-inspired cabin lighting, but no extra power.
Just 60 cars will make up the entire Japanese run of the Alfa Romeo Tonale Ibrida Sport Speciale. The crossover costs 6.88 million yen. A regular Ibrida Veloce is priced at 6.65 million yen, so the special edition carries a 230,000-yen premium, or about 3.5%.
The extra money does not buy more power. Underneath, it remains a Veloce with a 1.5-liter turbo engine, a 48-volt hybrid system producing a combined 175 hp and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Japanese Sport Speciale adds silver exterior accents, black Brembo calipers, dedicated badges and a cabin trimmed in Alcantara and genuine leather with white stitching.
The most unusual detail is inside: the multicolor ambient lighting uses a geometric pattern inspired by the Biscione, Alfa Romeo’s signature serpent. Stellantis Japan also confirms the color split: 45 cars will be finished in Brera Red and only 15 in Alfa White.
This is a separate Japanese edition and should not be confused with the recently unveiled Alfa Romeo Edizione Luna Rossa range. In Italy, the Tonale starts at €48,950 in that special series, which also includes the Junior, Giulia and Stelvio, while the Japanese Sport Speciale is genuinely limited to 60 units.
The current Tonale will remain important to Alfa Romeo for roughly another year: a new C-SUV based on the STLA Medium platform is due to debut in the fourth quarter of 2027 and take the Tonale’s place in the range. Local editions such as the Sport Speciale therefore help keep interest in the current model alive without changing the powertrain.
