BMW iX3 40 xDrive: price, range, specs and February 2027 production
BMW adds the iX3 40 xDrive between the rear-drive 40 and 50 xDrive. It makes 374 PS, offers up to 621 km WLTP and enters production in February 2027.
BMW has filled the gap between the entry-level iX3 40 and the more expensive 50 xDrive with a new 40 xDrive version. All-wheel drive adds €2,500 to the German price: the crossover costs €65,900, leaving another €5,000 to the iX3 50 xDrive.
In BMW's official autumn model update, the iX3 40 xDrive is rated at 275 kW, or 374 PS, with a WLTP range of 515–621 km. Energy consumption is 16.3–19.5 kWh/100 km. Series production of this version will begin in February 2027.
The positioning is clear next to the neighboring iX3 variants. The rear-wheel-drive iX3 40 makes 320 PS and, according to BMW's current official technical page, can travel up to 645 km WLTP. The second electric motor therefore adds 54 PS while reducing the maximum claimed range by only 24 km. The iX3 50 xDrive is substantially more powerful at 469 PS and uses a larger 108.7 kWh battery versus 82.6 kWh in the 40 xDrive, but it also starts at €70,900 in Germany.
BMW is also updating equipment across the iX3 range. Mineral White metallic and additional Individual colors are being added, wireless smartphone charging becomes standard, and cars with optional sport or multifunction seats move the seat controls to the doors with contour lighting. Gloss-black roof rails are also available, while the geometry of the M Sport brake calipers has been revised.
The new iX3 has already reached 100,000 European orders, showing the scale of early demand for the Neue Klasse crossover.
BMW has already shown how far one platform can diverge between markets: the Chinese iX3 gets its own batteries and versions. The European 40 xDrive takes a different approach, adding all-wheel drive between two existing steps in the lineup rather than chasing the lowest possible price.
