Toyota Sequoia is the most enduring SUV, says iSeeCars
An iSeeCars study spanning 174 million vehicles over 12 years found that Toyota’s Sequoia is the most enduring SUV on the market. The likelihood of it surpassing 400,000 kilometers is 39.1 percent—almost eight times the industry average of 4.8 percent.
Every Sequoia is powered by a twin-turbo hybrid V6 rated at 437 hp and 790 Nm, paired with a 10-speed automatic. It remains assured off the beaten path while keeping comfort, efficiency, and longevity in focus—precisely the mix buyers of a big SUV tend to value.
Second place went to the Toyota 4Runner at 32.9 percent, third to the Highlander Hybrid at 31 percent, fourth to the Tundra at 30 percent, and the top five rounded out with the Lexus IS at 27.5 percent. Of the 25 most durable models, 22 carry Japanese badges—Toyota, Lexus, Honda, and Acura.
Among heavy-duty pickups, the Ram 3500 led with a 39.7 percent chance, narrowly ahead of the Sequoia. In passenger cars, though, Toyota remains out of reach, occupying nine of the first ten positions.
iSeeCars analysts attributed the success of Japanese brands to a combination of reliable design, conservative engineering, and strong repairability. Taken together, Toyota’s results suggest that durability is less a marketing line and more an engineering tradition.
