Saipa Aria 1404 crossover: specs, features and first look

Saipa has pulled the wraps off the Aria 1404, a crossover-hatchback it positions as one of its most advanced models. Riding on the SP100 platform, it’s a spin-off of the Shahin sedan with a distinctly more youthful, sportier attitude. The debut at the Mashhad auto show drew plenty of attention.

On the outside, the Aria wears redesigned bumpers, a two-tone body, and 17-inch alloy wheels. Inside, Saipa uses soft-touch materials for the first time in its cars, while the features list includes climate control, a digital instrument cluster, keyless entry, an electronic parking brake with Auto Hold, wireless charging, a 360-degree camera setup, and blind-spot monitoring.

Power comes from a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine rated at 144 hp and 188 Nm, paired with a six-speed Aisin automatic. DVVT helps balance fuel use—quoted at about 7.8 l/100 km—with livelier response. The suspension combines MacPherson struts up front with a rear torsion beam, a pragmatic choice that helps keep upkeep costs in check.

In its class, the Aria will square up to the Iran Khodro Reyra, Chery Tiggo 5, and MVM X55 Pro. With comparable equipment, its likely advantages are local production, readily available parts, and a well-developed service network.

Taken together, the Saipa Aria 1404 looks like a step forward for Iran’s auto industry: contemporary styling, generous equipment, and tailoring to local needs make it a promising contender among affordable crossovers.
