Exeed rear-wheel steering sharpens handling on large vehicles
Exeed has unveiled a new rear-wheel steering technology that markedly sharpens the handling of large vehicles. The setup premiered on the Exeed TIANJI concept, which debuted at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, and is now being readied for series production.
The core idea is straightforward: at low speeds, the rear wheels turn opposite to the fronts, trimming the turning circle by 20–25%. Parking and threading through tight spaces become noticeably easier. At higher speeds, the rear axle pivots slightly in the same direction, boosting stability during lane changes and reducing the risk of a skid.
An electronic control unit processes vehicle speed, steering angle, acceleration, and body roll, then sets the optimal rear-steer angle; in the Exeed TIANJI it reaches up to 7 degrees. This two-mode approach—crab-walk at low speed and dynamic stabilization at high—makes even big crossovers feel light on their feet.
Engineers note that the system is integrated with the braking and stability electronics, delivering precise control and predictable behavior on any surface. Taken together, the package comes across as neatly calibrated: easier in town, calmer and more composed at speed.
