SCSK unveils a software-defined electric car built in nine months at the Japan Mobility Show 2025

A new player is set to debut at the Japan Mobility Show 2025: Japanese IT firm SCSK, determined to prove a car can be built as quickly as a digital product. The company needed just nine months to develop its first electric car — an eye-catching timeline by any measure.

One of Japan’s largest IT providers, SCSK has long focused on cloud services, consulting, and enterprise digital systems. Now it has stepped into automotive with a Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV), a car whose functions are governed not by hardware but by code. The project came together with overseas suppliers using a horizontal model rather than traditional integration, which sped up development and trimmed costs. Inside sits a smart cockpit anchored by a 44.6-inch 8K display that spans the entire dashboard. The AI learns the driver’s habits, adjusting climate control, suggesting routes, and even changing the background of the screen to match the mood. The execution feels less like a gimmick and more like a pointed demonstration of what happens when software sets the pace.
