Audi brings back the R8 spirit — new Nuvolari packs nearly 1,000 hp from Lamborghini

Audi has revealed the Nuvolari — a new supercar built to take the spiritual-successor seat once held by the R8. The model is named after Tazio Nuvolari and becomes the most powerful production Audi ever made.

The headline act is the powertrain. The Nuvolari uses a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that spins to 10,000 rpm, paired with the three-motor plug-in hybrid system from the Lamborghini Temerario. Combined output is 987 hp. For Audi, this is no longer just R8 replacement territory — it’s an attempt to climb above it.

The numbers back that up: 0–100 km/h takes 2.6 seconds, 0–200 km/h 6.8 seconds. For reference, the closely related Lamborghini Temerario is quoted at 2.7 seconds to 100 km/h and 7.1 seconds to 200 km/h, which means the Audi could end up faster than its donor.

The Nuvolari runs active aerodynamics, a front S-duct and a deployable rear wing. In its high-downforce setting the wing delivers up to 400 kg of downforce. Brakes are Audi Ceramic Pro with 10-piston front callipers and a brake-by-wire system.

Pricing has not been announced. What is known: production is capped at 499 units, with deliveries starting in the first half of 2027. This isn’t a mass-market R8 replacement — it’s a limited supercar for buyers who want an Audi with Lamborghini hardware and a collector-grade run.
