Deepal S05 and S09 2026: Prices, Specs and Range Compared

SPEEDME.RU photographers captured two Deepal crossovers at the Chengdu Motor Show 2026, representing opposite ends of the brand’s model range. On display were the flagship six-seat S09, over 5.2 meters long, and the noticeably more compact S05, which underwent a major refresh just two weeks before the show.

The photos clearly show the difference in positioning. The S09 is built as a large family SUV with big wheels, elaborate lighting and a massive body, while the white S05 has a more coupe-like profile, short overhangs and minimal decorative elements.

The updated S05 can be considered the fresher news at the stand: the revamped model entered the Chinese market on August 6, 2026. The main technical change was the addition of LiDAR and more powerful driver-assistance electronics.

Deepal S05 gains LiDAR but keeps its 272 hp

The updated S05 measures 4,620 mm long, 1,900 mm wide and 1,600 mm tall. The wheelbase is 2,880 mm. Despite its relatively compact body, the car offers a 492-liter trunk plus a 159-liter front storage compartment.

The Chinese 2026 model year version is now offered as a rear-wheel-drive electric car. The motor delivers 200 kW, or 272 hp, and 320 Nm. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes about 6.3 seconds.

Buyers can choose between a 56.1 or 68.8 kWh battery. Depending on the configuration, the rated CLTC range is either 520 or 620 km. With 3C fast charging, a 30–80% top-up takes no more than 15 minutes.

Higher-end variants get a 128-channel Hesai LiDAR and a pair of Horizon Robotics J6M chips. This is one of the main differences from the previous S05.

Official prices range from 119,900 to 151,900 yuan. At launch, a special promotional price of 115,900 to 144,900 yuan applies.

For reference, in Germany the electric Deepal S05 starts at €41,990 for the rear-wheel-drive version with 272 hp, while the all-wheel-drive variant with 435 hp is priced at €44,990.

S09 — a different league

Standing next to it, the Deepal S09 is noticeably larger. It measures 5,205 mm long, 1,996 mm wide and 1,800 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,105 mm. The cabin has three rows of seats and six seating positions.

Unlike the S05, the S09 is a series hybrid. In the current rear-wheel-drive 2026 version, the electric motor delivers 231 kW, or about 314 hp, and 375 Nm. A 1.5-liter turbo gasoline engine producing 110 kW is used primarily as a generator.

The latest version gets a 53.5 kWh CATL battery. The manufacturer claims up to 310 km of electric range on the CLTC cycle, while under the stricter WLTC method the figure is around 240 km. Total range reaches roughly 1,210 km.

Despite being over five meters long and weighing about 2.67 tons, the rear-wheel-drive S09 accelerates to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds and can reach a top speed of 205 km/h. Equipment includes a double-wishbone front suspension, a multi-link rear suspension and air suspension elements, and higher trims use the Huawei Qiankun ADS driver assistance system.

The current S09 Ultra Long Range version has a recommended price of 259,900 yuan, while dealer offers start at around 249,900 yuan.

Which of the two Deepals is more interesting for the Russian market

Both models are potentially interesting for the Russian market, but for different reasons. The S05 is already a global car: Changan has rolled it out to European markets, where both the 272 hp rear-wheel-drive version and the 435 hp dual-motor version are available.

The S09 is aimed primarily at Chinese demand for large six-seat EREV crossovers. In format it is close to the Li Auto L9 and other large family models, but at a Chinese price of around $36,000 it undercuts many competitors significantly.

With parallel imports, the price advantage would shrink noticeably due to recycling fees, shipping and customs duties. The S09, with over 300 hp, would be especially exposed to import charges.

Deepal’s Chengdu lineup therefore illustrates the brand’s current strategy well: the S05 is meant to be a mass-market global model, while the S09 handles the pricier family segment. Both cars, meanwhile, are betting less on unusual styling and more on range, fast charging and advanced electronics.
