BYD says the Dolphin Surf has been available from October 1 at European dealers in the Active trim with a reduced base price starting at €19,990. The electric hatchback, which earlier this year was named Best City Car, now comes in €3,000 cheaper than before. The brand positions the BYD Dolphin Surf as a compact urban EV tailored to everyday city driving and short trips. Despite its modest footprint, it carries a 30 kWh battery rated for about 220 kilometers on a single charge under the WLTP mixed cycle. DC fast charging at up to 65 kW allows convenient top-ups even when parking time is limited. For city routines, that range looks sufficient for commutes and errands, while the charging speed fits quick pit stops without overpromising.Power comes from a 65 kW electric motor, roughly equivalent to 88 horsepower. The setup moves the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.1 seconds—no record breaker, but enough for urban traffic and the occasional highway merge without fuss.Lars Bialkowski, managing director of BYD in Germany, noted that pushing the price below €20,000 should spark stronger interest among European buyers and help accelerate the broader shift to cleaner transport. The sub-€20k mark does feel like a psychological threshold for the market, and this step hints at a clear bid to bring more first-time EV owners into the fold.
