Tesla updates Model Y Long Range for Europe: more range, new motor, 7 seats

Tesla is preparing an updated Model Y Long Range for Europe — and the changes are more compelling than expected. First, the type approval now lists new Hankook Ventus S1 R19 tires, which boost efficiency: the official WLTP range is 629 km, while real-world results reach 641 km. For a crossover of this size, that’s edging into near‑premium territory.

The second key update is a new 4D3B rear motor rated at 159 kW, certified by the Turkish production facility. It signals that Tesla is widening its supply base and fine-tuning configurations to suit European regulations and demand.

The headline, though, is the return of the seven-seat version, officially for Europe for the first time. It’s the familiar Model Y — no extended wheelbase — now with a third row intended for children or smaller adults. The setup adds 52 kg to curb weight and up to 102 kg to permissible payload — essentially the footprint of the new configuration. In the real world, that extra flexibility can be the deciding factor for family buyers.

The debut of this variant also quashes rumors of a stretched-wheelbase 'Model Y L': the evidence points to evolution, not a ground-up rethink. And that’s precisely the sort of measured update that keeps a bestseller on point.

Tesla continues to consolidate its European position with more range and added practicality at a time when rivals are crowding key markets. It’s an incremental, well-aimed refresh that reinforces the Model Y’s relevance without rewriting its formula.
