Storm Elli disrupts Volkswagen: Golf production paused in Wolfsburg

Powerful Storm Elli has once again disrupted Germany’s automakers. Following a shutdown in Emden, Volkswagen was forced to pause Golf production in Wolfsburg due to a shortfall in supplies.

With roads choked by snow and logistics thrown off schedule, suppliers couldn’t get components to the plant in time. One of the three planned late shifts was canceled as a result. The stoppage hit only the Golf line, which now faces an unscheduled pause.

Output of the Tiguan, Touran, and Tayron continues as two lines keep running without interruption. In Emden, where more than 8,000 people work, production was halted entirely as a precaution, with a planned downtime day moved forward.

Elli is a fresh reminder of how brittle supply chains remain even for the biggest carmakers. Volkswagen has kept the impact contained, and the choice to isolate the Golf line while keeping the other two lines steady looks pragmatic. Still, the risk of further disruptions will persist until the weather and freight flows stabilize.
