2026 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV: new features and improved electric range

Mitsubishi has unveiled the updated 2026 Outlander PHEV at the Montreal Auto Show. This is one of the brand's most important vehicles for North America, and the refresh touches several key areas at once.

Design and Interior Changes

Externally, the Outlander PHEV features refreshed trim, new alloy wheels, and revised exterior elements. The interior changes are more noticeable: Mitsubishi has redesigned the center console, updated seat materials, and expanded the color palette. All versions now come with a 12.3-inch multimedia screen and a digital instrument cluster with new graphics. The Yamaha audio system, which replaces the previous setup, deserves special mention.

Technology and Electric Range

The powertrain retains its configuration with a 2.4-liter gasoline engine and two electric motors, delivering a combined 248 horsepower. The main technical update is the 22.7 kWh battery, replacing the previous 20 kWh unit. This boosts the electric-only range to 72 km on the Canadian cycle, an 18% increase over the 2025 model.

Improvements also extend to the suspension and electric power steering, which should enhance comfort and handling.

Pricing and Positioning

In Canada, the 2026 Outlander PHEV starts at $50,498 before taxes and delivery, roughly $2,000 more than its predecessor. In the U.S., preliminary estimates suggest the updated model could begin around $42,000. North American deliveries are scheduled for February.

The 2026 Outlander PHEV represents a logical evolutionary update: more electric range, a more modern interior, and a slightly higher price. For buyers focused on daily electric driving without giving up the internal combustion engine, this model remains one of the most balanced offerings in the segment.
