Tesla Model 3 gets high-performance carbon fiber wing from Unplugged Performance

Unplugged Performance has unveiled the Ascension-RR carbon fiber wing for the Tesla Model 3. Designed as a functional aerodynamic upgrade rather than a decorative piece, its primary goal is to counteract the lift generated by the Model 3's roofline at high speeds and enhance the car's stability on the track. The wing was developed using CFD simulations and validated through real-world testing.

Real Downforce, Not Just for Show

At speeds around 241 km/h, the Ascension-RR generates up to 238 kg of downforce on the rear axle. This is a figure more typical of sports cars than production electric sedans. When paired with Unplugged Performance's full aerodynamic package for the Model 3 Performance, total downforce reaches 322 kg, with a balanced distribution of 46/54 between the front and rear axles.

Adjustability and Compatibility

The wing is fully adjustable. At a 0-degree angle of attack, it's optimized for high-speed efficiency and stability, while a 4-degree setting provides maximum downforce for track days.

The Ascension-RR isn't just for the Model 3 Performance. It's compatible with all 2024 and newer Tesla Model 3 versions, including Long Range and rear-wheel-drive models.

Pricing and Options

The kit is priced at $2,495 and includes the wing element, carbon fiber mounts, and all necessary hardware. An optional Gurney flap is also available, a small add-on that improves the wing's trailing edge efficiency by stabilizing airflow. In practice, this detail matters because it offers tunable performance. Unplugged Performance has also confirmed that a similar wing for the Tesla Model S is currently in development.
