Ferrari patents 12Cilindri supercar design in Russia
Ferrari has officially patented the design of its new 12Cilindri supercar in Russia, marking the brand's flagship model with a classic naturally aspirated V12 engine. Journalists from SPEEDME.RU discovered the registration in the Russian patent database on February 9, 2026.
Flavio Manzoni, Ferrari's chief designer, is listed as the author of the industrial design, with Ferrari S.p.A. as the patent holder. The application, numbered 2025504861, was filed on September 4, 2025, which aligns with the brand's standard practice of protecting the appearance of key models in various markets well in advance.
As the direct successor to the 812 Superfast, the Ferrari 12Cilindri stands out as one of the brand's most significant new models in recent years. Its key feature is a fully atmospheric 6.5-liter V12 from the F140 family, without any hybridization. This engine delivers 819 horsepower at 9,250 rpm, with a redline pushed to 9,500 rpm. In terms of construction, the motor is similar to the unit in the 812 Competizione, including titanium connecting rods and a valve mechanism without hydraulic lifters but with roller tappets.
The powertrain pairs with a new 8-speed dual-clutch robotic transmission, mounted at the rear in a transaxle layout. According to Ferrari, gearshifts are now 30 percent faster than in the 812. The coupe accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, while the Spider version takes 2.95 seconds. Reaching 200 km/h takes less than 7.9 seconds for the coupe and 8.2 seconds for the Spider, with top speeds exceeding 340 km/h.
From a design perspective, the 12Cilindri is noticeably different from its predecessor. The proportions have become more compact due to a shorter wheelbase, and the front end, with a black panel between the headlights, nods to the classic Ferrari Daytona. At the same time, the styling incorporates modern cues familiar from the Roma, but in a more technical and aggressive interpretation.
The interior retains Ferrari's signature philosophy with a steering wheel loaded with buttons, but it now features a full central display for the multimedia system, something fans of the brand have long awaited. In terms of electronics and handling, the 12Cilindri is equipped with all of the brand's current systems, including the eighth-generation Side Slip Control and a four-wheel steering setup with active rear wheels.
The design registration in Russia does not mean the model will launch there soon, but it highlights Ferrari's strategic interest in protecting its developments even in markets with limited presence. In the U.S., the supercar is priced at $423,000 for the coupe and $466,000 for the Spider, and as is typical with Ferrari, most units are already sold out for years ahead.
