AUMOVIO partners with Leapmotor for EV safety systems in China

Continental's subsidiary AUMOVIO has begun supplying its latest safety systems to Chinese EV maker Leapmotor. The partnership covers two platforms—B and C—which will receive long-range radars, electric parking brakes, and integrated airbag control units.

Platform B gets next-generation radars, EPB, and updated ACU. On the C platform, including the production models C10, C11, and C16, the MK C2 brake system is being installed. This compact module combines the master cylinder, electronic control unit, and brake booster. Originally designed for sports cars, it has been mass-produced since 2022, with output already reaching 5.5 million units.

AUMOVIO operates 20 facilities in China and holds around 14% of the safety components market, producing radars, ACU, and brake systems locally. This "produce where you sell" strategy cuts development time by nearly threefold and tailors products to the specific needs of China's EV market.

A centerpiece of the collaboration is a long-range radar with a reach of up to 280 meters. Roughly the size of two matchboxes, it's a fully redesigned solution focused on compactness and energy efficiency. By 2025, AUMOVIO had produced 200 million radar sensors.

In practice, AUMOVIO's growing footprint in China signals a shift from being a global supplier to a local technology partner. This move is particularly significant in the electric vehicle sector, where Leapmotor is rapidly expanding its lineup.
