Renault 4 Plein Sud electric car: open-top version launched in Spain
Renault has launched the open-top version of its Renault 4 electric car, called the Plein Sud, in the Spanish market. This model features a 150-horsepower motor and a 52 kWh battery, starting at €35,081. Surprisingly, it finds itself competing in the same segment as the Tesla Model 3, but Renault is betting on emotions rather than just the numbers.
What's New
The key feature of the Plein Sud version is its fabric roof with a 92-centimeter longitudinal opening. It folds into three sections and can be controlled via a button or voice commands.
This option is only available for the top-tier version with the larger battery and is offered in the Techno and Iconic trims, with an additional cost of up to €2,387.
Tech and Positioning
The Renault 4 remains a compact B-segment electric crossover. It is equipped with a 150-horsepower electric motor and is designed for comfortable city driving.
In practice, the model's price effectively overlaps with the base Tesla Model 3, making its positioning unusual. This isn't a mass-market electric vehicle but rather a niche product with an emotional appeal.
Roland-Garros Special Edition
Alongside this, Renault has introduced the Roland-Garros version, which will serve as the flagship of the lineup. It features a unique design inspired by the tennis tournament, including special body colors, decorative elements, and a redesigned interior.
The premiere of this version is set for May, with sales starting in the fall.
Conclusion
Renault is focusing not only on affordable electric vehicles but also on image-driven versions. The Renault 4 Plein Sud demonstrates that even in the budget EV segment, there is room for emotional and unconventional solutions, albeit at a higher-than-expected price.
