Volkswagen ID.UNYX 08 arrives as a new flagship electric crossover for China
At the Beijing auto show, SPEEDME journalists spotted the new Volkswagen ID.UNYX 08 — the flagship electric crossover in the brand’s China-focused line-up. The model delivers 230 kW, up to 730 km of range on the CLTC cycle and DC fast-charging capability of up to 315 kW, placing it firmly among the new generation of full-size EVs.
ID.UNYX 08 is a large crossover measuring about 5 metres in length (5000x1954x1688 mm) with a 3030 mm wheelbase. Visually, it adopts a more assertive design than the ID.UNYX 07, with pronounced wheel arches and a substantial rear end. Luggage capacity ranges from 766 to 1845 litres, making it a genuine alternative to family SUVs.
The model is built on Volkswagen’s electric architecture, adapted to Chinese standards. Its electric motor produces 230 kW and 465 Nm, enabling a 0–100 km/h time of 7.3 seconds. It uses an LFP battery aimed at durability and lower cost.
Range reaches 730 km on the CLTC cycle, while energy consumption is rated at 14.6 kWh per 100 km. Support for DC fast charging at up to 315 kW significantly cuts charging times. Top speed is limited to 200 km/h.
ID.UNYX 08 goes up against large electric crossovers such as the Tesla Model Y in extended versions, the BYD Tang EV and models from the Geely Galaxy line. Volkswagen is clearly stepping up its presence in the large EV segment, where Chinese brands have already set the pace.
ID.UNYX 08 shows that Volkswagen can no longer ignore the Chinese market and is now playing by its rules: strong output, long range and ultra-fast charging. This is no longer just another EV, but a full-scale response to pressure from local manufacturers.
